I am sitting in my kitchen, listening to Celine Dion compete with the four clocks above my head ticking loudly. My apartment needs four clocks. (One wouldn't be enough ofcourse.) All the lamps are off and the only light is from the cloudy day outside as it squeezes through our blinds and drags white stripes across our floor. Isn't it funny how the darkness can feel warm? Cloudy days are my favorite but they remind me of the adventure Spencer and I braved last week. Hiking and cold and paint on my pants. All for the sake of art.
Near my Lala and Poppy's house in Salt Lake City is a World Market store. I have to swing by every time I visit them. For the artwork, the jewelry, pillows, and especially the world food. (Candy.) Last time I went this painting caught my eye and I fell in love for the fifty-thousandth time. The show, Good Luck Charlie on Disney Channel has this same painting in Teddy's bedroom. I got super excited when I saw it behind her head. It finally convinced me to get dirty and just make my own. If it's good enough for Disney Channel, it's good enough for this girl.
Luckily the BYU Bookstore caters to spontaneous artists, as well as the actual art students. I got 3 14" x 18" flat canvases for $6, acrylic paint, paintbrushes and paint trays for about $25. Ofcourse, the creativity came free :)
The pattern on the painting is a mixture of interlacing circles. Turns out a CD is the perfect size.
Looking back I realize I should have traced the circles at an angle so they would be diagonal, but I didn't realize it until it was too late and my creative mind screamed in frustration. The little technical details like angles always mess up my projects!
Early last Saturday morning, I packed us a picnic lunch and we drove through the canyon above Aspen Grove. There was already snow on the ground and the trees were losing their leaves, but for a while the sun shone above the ridge of Mt. Timpanogas and we had a great time. My art is colorful and messy - just like my life. Spencer's is solid and strong. Such a boy. Such a chemical engineer. He put on 4 coats... Now they hang in my living room, next to our wallflowers.
